The Histopathology test refers to microscopic examination of large tissue specimens or full organs along with regional lymph nodes taken from the body through surgical procedures.Mastectomy specimens generally come under this category.
The sample is examined grossly,sectioned appropriately, processed, stained (commonly with H&E), and examined under a microscope by a pathologist to study the morphology of cells and tissues and pathology in them. The purpose of the test is to detect abnormal, inflammatory, benign, precancerous, or cancerous changes in tissues. This test provides an opinion or confirms the diagnosis for which the surgery was done. It also suggests any further actions required.
